This journal is used mostly for fannish rantings (current fandoms: Macross, Final Fantasy, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Gackt. Er. Is Gackt a fandom?) and links to things Chinese, Japanese and general Asia-related. If you're looking for my fanfic, head over to
seraphitus for my fic journal. ^_^

On the topic of the loss of my favorite rocker to suicide last week, I've decided to finish translating his autobiography into English. Back in my 20s (hahaha) I was big on improving my Japanese. I was also big into Japanese rock music, so the two collided when I realized that a lot of my favorite band members had released autobiographies and that I could do the rest of the world a favor by translating them into English.
I only ever finished one full book translation (Gackt's Jihaku, which can be found here) but I did a bunch of partial translations of articles and chapters of other books. Taiji's book was one of those, but I stopped doing any sort of translation around the time I moved to Boston.
But I figure, this is as good a way as any to pay tribute to an awesome musician. I'm going to try and do one chapter a week. This will help improve my Japanese again anyway, as I've slipped since I moved back to the US.
The rest of the chapters can be found here: http://seventhmoon.org/taiji/
( Chapter 3.20: Voiceless Screaming )
For those of you who have no idea who Taiji is, you might have heard of X Japan, one of the most influential Japanese metal bands of the 80s. They're still active and have long moved past their metal stage, but Taiji was their bassist from 1985-1992.

Just a small note that my paid LJ account expired last week, and with all the attacks on the servers and RL and me being busy, I haven't been on LJ much at all in the past 6 months or so, which is why I had no problem with letting my paid account lapse. Honestly, I find myself more and more on the internet to randomly surf around and not type SRS POSTS, which is what I used to do on LJ all the time XD
I've had a Dreamwidth account for a while to keep up with stuff in the fandoms I'm into so if you're over there, you can add me (same user name as LJ) but I don't post much over there either. I've gotten kind of boring the last few years.
Yar.

I guess DWJ died this weekend. :( She was one of my favorite authors of all time. ;___; I am just really sad there will be no more adventures of Howl and Sophie.
Here's Neil Gaiman's blog post about her: http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2011/03/b eing-alive.html

They are okay. Sendai has no electricity and no water, and cell phone service is still down. But the whole family is fine.
Thanks everyone for your prayers and kind wishes.

- Tsunami warning went on all night for Honolulu coastal areas. I never knew a siren could sound so frightening.
- Luckily, warning was lifted this morning at 8 AM, no damage here
- My flight (ANA) was due out today to Narita. Obviously, as Narita is completely shut down and ANA has cancelled all flights, that didn't happen.
- I am now stranded in Hawaii and unable to make my grandfather's funeral on Monday.
- Hong Kong family is okay, tsunamis don't usually make it in that far since they are in a protected bay. I heard Taiwan had a tsunami warning.
- We can't get in touch with family in Sendai, phones are dead, not answering email. I tried the people finder and the emergency 171 web message board, but so far nothing.
- Since as you know, the quake and tsunami pretty much struck Sendai straight on, we are very worried.
- More later.

My FFX-2 YuRiPa group had a photoshoot with
IN LOVE.
THANK YOU ELEMENTAL SO MUCH
I didn't think I would like FFX-2 until I started playing, and it's really proven itself to a real winner. Yes, the battle sphere changes are fanservice crack, but I really think that the game does a great job of continuing the FFX storyline, and even with all the little hilarious crack-y moments, it still manages to make me sad. Also, X-2 has the honor of making me love Yuna, when I had not liked her at all in X. Yuna's a real winner in X-2, which is why I had to cosplay her.
Me as Berserker Yuna
BalthierFlare as Dark Knight Rikku
MajesticLunacy as White Mage Paine
If you missed us at Katsucon, we will be at Otakon this summer!
( MORE FABULOUS PHOTOS UNDER HERE )
This is the most amazing photo that has ever been taken of me.
I owe it all to

So it's midnight-ish here and I guess it is officially 2011.
I have no resolutions XD I've been pretty happy with how 2010 turned out, and I've been writing "2011" on contracts for a while now because I am actually booked up until June for work. Yup.
Next year going to Katsucon, Anime Boston, and Otakon for sure. Hope to see you guys there.
I love you all!
